Installing and configuring the BPMN event emitter

For IBM® Business Automation Insights to capture BPMN events for further processing, you install and configure the BPMN event emitter application.

Important: Configuring the BPMN event emitter application also includes setting up security. For more information, see Securing BPMN emitter communications to Kafka.

Prerequisites to BPMN event emitter installation
Before you can configure the BPMN event emitter, download and install the product and its interim fixes, and make sure you have the necessary configuration files.
Installing and configuring the BPMN emitter
To install the BPMN event emitter to the IBM Business Automation Workflow server, you enable the generation of Dynamic Event Framework (DEF) events and you install the BPMEventEmitter application in the Support cluster of an Application, Messaging, and Support topology pattern of a production environment.
Configuring the BPMN event emitter
To configure the BPMN event emitter, you run the EnableBAI.py script with a properties file, which generates the configuration files that are used by the emitter to send events to a Kafka server.
Updating the BPMEventEmitter.war file
After each upgrade to a new IBM Business Automation Workflow release, you must manually update the BPMN event emitter WAR file. You do so by using the EnableBAI.py script.
Customizing the configuration file
As a service extension, you can customize your configuration file to handle the security combinations that are supported by Apache Kafka.
