Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus installable features

You can choose to install some or all of the available Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus features. For example, if you only want to run probes on a particular computer, you might only require the Probe support and Process agent features. You can modify your installation at any time to add or remove features.

The following table lists the installable features for Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus server component installations. The Feature column lists the feature names as they appear in the IBM® Installation Manager GUI and console, and their identifiers as used with response files. You must specify the feature identifiers when creating an IBM Installation Manager response file for silent installation. If you record a response file during a GUI or console installation, your feature selections are recorded using these identifiers.

Administrator GUI

nco_admin_gui_feature

 Select this feature to install the Netcool/OMNIbus Administrator GUI.
Administrator tools

nco_admin_tools_feature

 Select this feature to install the following command-line utilities for use by system administrators:
  • Configuration Packager (nco_confpack)

    Use the Configuration Packager to import and export parts of ObjectServer configurations.

  • ObjectServer Report Generator (nco_osreport)

    Use the ObjectServer Report Generator to export entire ObjectServer configurations into SQL files. You can use the generated files to create new ObjectServers.
TEC migration

nco_tec_migration

 Select this feature to install the BAROC conversion tool (nco_baroc2sql). You can use this tool to aid the migration of Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) BAROC files to SQL.
Operator GUI

nco_operator_gui_feature

 Select this feature to install the following graphical applications and utilities for use by operators:
  • Netcool/OMNIbus Conductor

    Use the Netcool/OMNIbus Conductor to start other applications, to display configurations, and to edit properties files.

  • Event List

    The Event List GUI displays color-coded events.

  • Transient Event List

    Use the Transient Event List tool to run customized, transient event lists directly from the command line, in a script, or as part of an event list.

  • Accelerated Event Notification

    The Accelerated Event Notification (AEN) application provides a means of accelerating high-priority events to help ensure that systems can continue to run without interruption.

  • Servers Editor

    Use the Servers Editor to configure and maintain communication information for ObjectServers, gateways, proxy servers, and process agents.
ObjectServer

nco_objserv_feature

 Select this feature to install the ObjectServer.

The ObjectServer is the in-memory database server at the core of Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus. Use the ObjectServer to store and process alert information. If you do not install the ObjectServer component, you must have an ObjectServer running elsewhere on your network.
ObjectServer gateways

nco_g_objserv_feature

 Select this feature to install the gateways that are required to send events between ObjectServers.
Bridge server

nco_bridgeserv_feature

 Select this feature to install the firewall bridge server. This server enables probes to connect to an ObjectServer from outside a firewall.
Proxy server

nco_proxyserv_feature

 Select this feature to install the proxy server. You can use the proxy server to reduce the number of direct probe connections to an ObjectServer, which can improve performance.
Process agent

nco_pa_feature

 Select this feature to install the process agent. Use the process agent to manage ObjectServer, probe, and gateway processes, and to run external procedures.
Probe support

nco_probes_support_feature

 Select this feature to install the infrastructure required for running probes.
When you select this feature, the following probes are also installed:
  • Probe Rules Syntax Checker (nco_p_syntax)

    Use the Probe Rules Syntax Checker to test the syntax of a rules file.

  • Simnet probe (nco_p_simnet)

    Use the Simnet probe to automatically generate incidents and simulate network events.
Gateway support

nco_gateways_support_feature

 Select this feature to install the infrastructure required for running gateways. Use the ObjectServer gateways feature to install the ObjectServer gateways.
Netcool MIB Manager

nco_mib_manager_feature

 Select this feature to install Netcool MIB Manager. MIB Manager generates rules files for the SNMP probe (nco_p_mttrapd) from SNMP MIB files.
Extensions

nco_extensions_feature

 Select this feature to install templates and files for extending the functionality of Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus.

The available extensions include configurations for event flood control, predictive eventing and analytics, multitier architecture, and event management for virtual environments.
