Enabling the Tivoli Storage Manager device manager

Each Tivoli® Storage Manager volume defined for the resource manager results in a unique Tivoli Storage Manager file space on the Tivoli Storage Manager server. The name of the file space is /ICM/resource-manager-name/resource-manager-collection/TSM-management-class. When you store the first object into each unique Content Manager Enterprise Edition Tivoli Storage Manager volume, a Tivoli Storage Manager file space is created.

About this task

When you delete or migrate all of the objects out of the Tivoli Storage Manager file space, the initial file space is not deleted. If you want to delete an empty file space, use the Tivoli Storage Manager administration functions to delete it.

Procedure

To enable the Tivoli Storage Manager Device Manager (for Device Manager Properties - ICMADDM):

  1. Click Device Manager, right-click ICMADDM, and select Properties.
The Device Manager Properties - ICMADDM window opens.
  2. Ensure that the Name field has ICMADDM (disabled) shown.
  3. Enter information into the Description field.
For example, enter ADSM DEVICE MANAGER.
  4. Leave the Parameters field blank.
  5. To use archive copy group mode with Content Manager Enterprise Edition, ensure that the Tivoli Storage Manager Server has retention protection enabled. Additionally, ensure that the Tivoli Management Class is event based.
  6. Enter TSM in the Class field.
  7. Click to select Enable for the Device manager.
  8. Click OK.
