Scaling options for OpenPages instances

Important: IBM Cloud Pak® for Data Version 4.6 will reach end of support (EOS) on 31 July, 2025. For more information, see the Discontinuance of service announcement for IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.X.

Upgrade to IBM Software Hub Version 5.1 before IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.6 reaches end of support. For more information, see Upgrading IBM Software Hub in the IBM Software Hub Version 5.1 documentation.

You can scale OpenPages® by scaling the application server and the database server.

Review the minimum system requirements before you make changes. See System requirements.

When you provision an OpenPages instance, you choose a size for the instance. The following table shows the default sizes.

Table 1. Default sizes for OpenPages instances
Size Description
Extra small (XS) 4 vCPUs and 12 GB RAM with one application server and one database server
Use for nonproduction workloads only.
  • Application server

    2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM

  • Database server

    2 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM

Small 8 vCPUs and 20 GB RAM with two application servers and one database server
  • Application server 1

    2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM

  • Application server 2

    2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM

  • Database server

    4 vCPUs, 12 GB RAM

Medium 16 vCPUs and 40 GB RAM with two application servers and one database server
  • Application server 1

    4 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM

  • Application server 2

    4 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM

  • Database server

    8 vCPUs, 24 GB RAM

Large 32 vCPUs and 80 GB RAM with four application servers and one database server
  • Application server 1

    4 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM

  • Application server 2

    4 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM

  • Application server 3

    4 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM

  • Application server 4

    4 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM

  • Database server

    16 vCPUs, 48 GB RAM

You can scale the instance by updating the size of the application server and the database server.
Note: Run scaling operations when the cluster is quiet.
