BCDS information
You can access BCDS information from the BCDS Options menu panel, from which you can generate reports, search for data set names, filter BCDS detail information, display BCDS plans and filtered flat files, and format extract files.
The flat file extraction is used interactively by Advanced Reporting and Management for DFSMShsm to retrieve and present information to user programs.
To access the BCDS Options menu panel, select the BCDS Information option from the classic interface's main menu panel and press Enter.
The BCDS Option menu offers these options:
- Backup Data Sets by SMS Type and Classes
- Presents a summary of data sets by SMS TYPE (storage, management, or data) from which you can choose for which SMS CLASS you want to view data set detail information.
- Backup Data Sets by Backup Volume
- Presents a summary of data sets by backup volume, which is particularly useful when a volume has been lost or damaged and you need to determine which data sets were on the volume.
- Data Set Name Search
- Provides a method for searching for a particular data set. You specify the search criteria and the resulting list contains only those data sets who meet the specified criteria.
- Filter BCDS Detail Information
- Provides a method of filtering the data contained in the BCDS fields so that only the data matching the filter criteria are shown.
- Display the BCDS Plans
- Displays a list of filter and sort plans for the BCDS.
- Display Filtered Flat Files for BCDS
- Displays a list of files that have been filtered or saved after BCDS processing.
- Format BCDS Extract File Online
- Format the BCDS extract in a TSO session. If your BCDS is relatively small (approximately 10,000 records), this option is a good choice.
- Submit Batch Job to Format BCDS Extract File
- Submit for batch execution a job that formats the BCDS extract file. After the job completes, you an use the Use Existing Reformatted BCDS Extract File option to display more BCDS options.
