Creating a custom setting

You can create custom settings and folders.

Before you begin

  • To access Settings, you must have the Settings application permission set on your account.
  • Set both /Applications/Common/Configuration/Show Hidden Settings and /Applications/Common/Configuration/Allow Create and Delete Settings to true.

About this task

Keep setting and folder names short. The maximum length of a setting path, including the setting name, is 2,048 characters.

Complete the following procedure to create a custom setting:

Procedure

  1. Log on as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Open Administration menu Administration menu > System Configuration > Settings.
  3. If you want to create a setting in a folder that doesn't exist, do the following steps:
    1. Click New Folder.
    2. In Name, enter the name of the new folder.
      The name must begin with a letter and can contain letters, numbers, space, underbar, and hyphen. The maximum length of the name is 120 characters.
    3. In the Folder Path section, click Choose.
    4. Select the path to the new folder and click Done.
    5. Click Create.
    For example, if you created a new object that you named My Object and want to create the setting Applications > GRCM > Auto Naming > My Object, you need to create the My Object folder. Enter My Object as the Name and select /Applications/GRCM/Auto Naming as the Folder Path to the My Object folder.
  4. Click New Setting.
  5. In Name, enter the name of the new setting.
    The maximum length of the name is 120 characters.
  6. In the Folder Path section, click Choose.
  7. Select the path to the new folder and click Done.
  8. Click Create to add the new setting to the selected folder.
