Licensing
Agent License
In order to use the IBM Live Migration Service, you would require a migration service account and a valid license package. You need to install and run the Migration agent in your source machine to replicate and migrate a source machine. Licenses for each source machine are required for migration using the IBM Live Migration Service.
License Parameters
License for the IBM Live Migration Service is defined by the following:
- Number of source machines to be migrated using IBM Live Migration Service
- Expiration date of the License
License Usage
If an agent is installed and used in the source machine, one license will be used and active until the expiry date of the license. In the same or different project, a license can not be associated with more than one source machine.
When the license expires, the following scenarios occur:
- Target machine cannot be launched.
- Replication cannot be restarted after a pause or a stop.
- Ongoing replication will continue.
License Tracking
IBM Live Migration Agent license expiry date is 90 days from the date of the agent installation in the source machine. The entire installation, replication, testing and cutover should be completed during these 90 days. Once you log into the IBM Live Migration Service console, you can track the use of the license in the following three ways:
-
Console Dashboard
The dashboard contains information on the number of licenses allocated, the number of used licenses and the expiration date of the license.
-
Status Bar
The status bar always indicates the number of licenses allocated to the used project licenses.
-
License Tracker
The license tracker can be accessed by clicking the Licenses Info from the status bar or Setup & Info > Licenses. This view provides very detailed license information.
The License tracker provides the below information:
- Machine Name - Name of the source machine
- Machine License Expiration Date - indicates the expiration date of the license
- License Consumed On - agent installation date in source machine
- Active/Inactive Status - indicates if it is active in any project.
