DS8870 includes a base frame (model 961).
The base frame includes the following components:
- Storage enclosures 1
- Internal management server (or Hardware Management Console, HMC) 2
- External HMC (optional)
- Ethernet switches
- Processor complex (available with POWER7+™ and POWER7® processors) 3
- I/O enclosures 4
- Direct-current uninterruptible power supplies (DC-UPS) 5
- Rack power control (RPC) cards 6
Figure 1 illustrates an example of a standard configuration for a base frame with the maximum number of standard disk enclosures
