Installing a Slimline media device in the 9080-MHE, 9080-MME, 9119-MHE, or 9119-MME system with the system power turned on in an AIX system

To install a Slimline media device in the 9080-MHE, 9080-MME, 9119-MHE, or 9119-MME system with the AIX® system or AIX logical partition power turned on, complete the steps in this procedure.

1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap attached. If not, attach it now.
2. Remove the filler and service procedure manual, if present.
   1. Grasp the filler and slide it out of the system.
   2. Remove the service procedure manual from the slot above the filler.
3. Find the package that contains the new media device and remove it from the static-protective package.
4. Complete the following steps in the AIX system:
   1. Log in as root user or use celogin-.
   2. At the command line, type diag, and then press Enter.
   3. From the Function Selection menu, select Task Selection, and then press Enter.
   4. Select Hot Plug Task, and then press Enter.
   5. Select SCSI and SCSI RAID Hot Plug Manager, and then press Enter.
   6. Select Attach a device to a SCSI Hot Swap Enclosure Device, and then press Enter.
   7. Select the appropriate slot where you want to install the media device. Press Enter. An amber LED identifies the selected slot.

      A window displays the slot you selected to attach the device.

   8. If the correct slot is chosen, continue with the next step.
   9. If an incorrect slot is chosen, press F3 or Esc+3 to select the correct slot.
5. Install the Slimline media device by completing the following steps:
   1. Ensure that the Slimline media device handle (A) is rotated open as shown in Figure 1.
   2. Using your hand to support the bottom of the Slimline media device, align the device with the media bay.
   3. Slide the device into the system and rotate the handle (A) in the direction shown until the latch locks in place.

6. Connect one end of the USB cable to the USB port at slot P1-C11-T1 on the rear of the system control unit and the other end to the USB port on the PCIe USB adapter (FC EC45 or EC46) in the system node.
