Managing storage devices by using the Integrated Virtualization Manager

You can use the Integrated Virtualization Manager to manage storage for logical partitions on the managed system.

When you install the Virtual I/O Server, a single storage pool is created automatically for the managed system. This storage pool, which is called rootvg, is the default storage pool. You might want to consider using the Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM) to create a storage pool in addition to the rootvg storage pool and to assign the new storage pool as the default storage pool. Doing so is especially useful if you plan to create and use a shared memory pool on the managed system. You can then add more physical volumes to the default storage pool, create virtual disks from the default storage pool, and assign these virtual disks to other logical partitions.

You can also use IVM to manage physical optical devices and virtual optical media, as well as physical tape devices for the logical partitions on your managed system.
