Viewing log files from the cluster management console

As a cluster and consumer administrator, you can download IBM® Spectrum Conductor logs from the cluster management console to view information and to troubleshoot resources, daemons, and services.

You can download the entire log file, or retrieve part of a log file. Log files up to 2 MB are supported. The following table lists the logs that you can download from the cluster management console.

Table 1. Logs downloaded from the cluster management console
Log name Description Cluster management console location log can be retrieved from
ascd.log:
  • ascd.log.hostname
  • start-ascd.log.hostname
Logs system errors and debug information relating to ascd:
  • Logs messages, events, and errors for ascd.
  • Logs general and error messages that relate to ascd startup.
System logs, hosts
ascd_messages.log
  • message_ascd_server.log
  • message_ascd_server_timestamp.log
Logs system errors and debug information that relate to the Liberty Profile for the ascd web server:
  • Logs system errors and debug information that relate to the Liberty Profile (the run time environment) for the ascd web server.
  • Duplicate of message_ascd_server.log. The timestamped version is generated by the Liberty Profile for backup purposes as required.
System logs, hosts
datasourcetools.log Logs database configuration tool activities, which configures the connection between the reporting services and the relational database. System logs, hosts
dockercontroller.log.hostname Logs aggregated information on Docker workloads that are managed by the Docker Controller. Hosts
egodeploy.log Logs messages and errors relating to deploying and installing service packages from the repository server. System logs, hosts
es.log Logs system errors and debug information relating to Elasticsearch. System logs, hosts
esc.log Logs service failures and service instance restarts based on availability plans. Errors surrounding cluster management console startup are logged here. System logs, hosts
indexer.log Logs system errors and debug information relating to elk-indexer. The Logstash indexer in the Elastic Stack is used to read and structure data, then output it to Elasticsearch. System logs, hosts
lim.log Logs static and dynamic attribute information about individual hosts. Logs any error warnings generated while lim was running. If log class is set to debug, logs information that helps locate the encountered problem. System logs, hosts
loader.log Logs the data loaders activities, which collects operation data using data loader plug-ins to load data into tables in a relational database. System logs, hosts
manager.log Logs related to the elk-manager service. The Elastic Stack management service is used to delete Elasticsearch indices, and to update the Logstash host for the elk-shipper service to forward logs to the elk-indexer service. System logs, hosts
messages_gui.log
  • messages_gui.log
  • message_gui_server.log
  • message_gui_server_timestamp.log
Logs system errors and debug information relating to startup of the cluster management console web server:
  • Log file for system errors and debug information relating to the cluster management console web server startup.
  • Log file for system errors and debug information relating to the Liberty Profile (the run time environment) for the cluster management console web server.
  • Duplicate of message_gui_server.log. The timestamped version is generated by the Liberty Profile for backup purposes as required.
System logs, hosts
messages_rest.log
  • messages_rest.log
  • message_rest_server.log

  • Duplicate of message_rest_server.log. The timestamped version is generated by the Liberty Profile for backup purposes as required.
System logs, hosts
pem.log Logs remote operations (start, stop, control activities, failures). Logs tracked results for resource utilization of all processes associated with the host, and information for accounting or chargeback. System logs, hosts
plc.log Logs the loader controller service activities, which controls the data loader plug-ins that collect data from the system and writes the data into the database. System logs, hosts
purger.log Logs data purger activities, which maintains the size of the database by purging old records from the data base and archiving them. System logs, hosts
rs.log Logs messages, events, and errors for the repository service, used for package deployment on compute hosts. System logs, hosts
shipper.log Logs system errors and debug information relating to elk-shipper. The Filebeat shipper in the Elastic Stack is used to harvest, analyze, and forward log files to the Logstash indexer. System logs, hosts
upgradeLog.log Logs messages, events and errors for the configuration wizard. System logs, hosts
vemkd.log Logs aggregated host information about the state of individual resources, status of allocation requests, consumer hierarchy, resources assignment to consumers, and started operating system-level process. System logs, hosts
wsm.log Logs information collected by the web server manager. Failures of the cluster management console and the REST service (REST web server) are logged here. System logs, hosts
