Steps for Installing the QTP Adapter:
  1. Extract the QTPAdapterInstaller.zip file to a temporary location
    (for example, C:\temp).
  2. Double-click the "InstallQTPAdapter.vbs" file. It displays a window that prompts for selecting the location for the QTP adapter installation.

In case the operating system is not supported by the installation script, the following message is displayed:

Check the "Software Requirements" section for the Operating System requirements.

In case the installation script stops abruptly without displaying any error, it is possible that the installation script might exceed the execution time. To confirm, run the installation script from the command prompt by completing the following steps:

    1. Change the directory to the location where the QTPAdapterInstaller.zip file is extracted.
    2. Run the installation script as "cscript InstallQTPAdapter.vbs"
    3. Check whether the execution returns the following error message: Script execution time was exceeded on script "InstallQTPAdapter.vbs". Script execution was terminated.
    4. To avoid this error message, set the value for following registry key to zero.
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings\Timeout
  3. Click "OK" and select the location for the QTP adapter installation in the "Browse For Folder" window.
  4. In case, the given location does not contain a valid QTP adapter installation, for example, QTPro.exe is missing, or you click "Cancel" without selecting a location, then the following error is displayed.

You can continue the installation by clicking "OK" and selecting a valid location for the QTP adapter. You can also cancel the installation by clicking "Cancel".

  5. The installation script prompts for selecting JAVA Home.

In case the selected location does not contain a valid Java installation or you click "Cancel" without selecting a location, the following error message is displayed, and you are prompted either to continue or cancel the installation. The installation can be continued by clicking "OK" (returns to the "Browse For Folder" window) and can be canceled by clicking "Cancel".

Make sure that the selected Java path contains a valid Java installation. Check the "Software Requirements" section for the applicable Java versions.

  6. The installation script prompts for the destination folder where you want to install the QTP adapter.
  7. Click "OK" and select a location.

If you click "Cancel" without selecting a location, the installation script prompts for confirmation.

  8. If the destination folder already contains a QTP adapter installation, then the installation script prompts for confirmation whether to overwrite the existing files.
  9. If you select "Yes to All", the existing files are overwritten. If you select "No", the existing files are preserved. In any case, the installation continues.

  10. The adapter is installed, and shortcuts are created on the Desktop and in the Start Menu to launch the QTP adapter console.
  11. After the installation is completed, the folder is opened where the QTP adapter is installed.
  12. Run the "launchQTPAdapterConsole.bat" file to launch the QTP adapter console. "User ID" that is used to connect to IBM Engineering Test Management must have a connector type of Client Access license.
