Upgrading CP4BA multi-pattern clusters from 21.0.3 or 22.0.2
Upgrade your Cloud Pak for Business Automation multi-pattern clusters from 21.0.3-IF031 or later, or 22.0.2-IF006 to 24.0.0-IF004 or any future interim fix.
Note:
- Your current Cloud Pak for Business Automation deployment version must be 21.0.3-IF031 or later to upgrade directly to 24.0.0-IF004 or later. If you are on an earlier version, you must upgrade to 23.0.1-IF031 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading to an intermix fix.
- Your current Cloud Pak for Business Automation deployment version must be 22.0.2-IF006 to upgrade directly to 24.0.0-IF004 or later. If you are on an earlier version, you must upgrade to 22.0.2-IF006. For more information, see Upgrading to an interim fix.
Important:
- There is a known issue when you upgrade directly from 21.0.3-IF035, 21.0.3-IF036, 21.0.3-IF037,
21.0.3-IF038, or 21.0.3-IF039 to 24.0.0-IF004 or later if
your Cloud Pak for Business Automation
deployment includes any of the following capabilities:
- Automation Decision Services
- Automation Document Processing Development
- Automation Workstream Services
- Business Automation Workflow Runtime
- Business Automation Workflow Authoring
- IBM Automation Document Processing projects cannot be upgraded directly from 21.0.3 to 24.0.0 due to incompatibility with the underlying database schema and updates to credential management. As a result, projects that are created in 21.0.3 cannot be opened in 24.0.0. After you upgrade from 21.0.3 to 24.0.0, project administrators must create new tenant databases and new projects. For more information, see the Failed to gather details of project error with IBM Automation Document Processing technote.
- Some IBM Operational Decision Manager rule projects might not be upgradeable directly from 21.0.3 to 24.0.0 due to rule engine incompatibility. The classic rule engine was removed from Operational Decision Manager 8.12. To use rule projects developed in earlier versions of Operational Decision Manager on 24.0.0, they must run on the decision engine, which succeeds the classic rule engine.
- If you included IBM FileNet® Content Manager in your deployment and the object stores contains large number of documents, then you need to follow the steps in Best Practice: Upgrading to Content Platform Engine V5.5.9 or higher before you upgrade your Cloud Pak for Business Automation deployment.
Before you upgrade your Cloud Pak for Business Automation deployment to 24.0.0, it is important to know the steps involved in the upgrade process.
The following flow diagram shows a high-level process to upgrade a CP4BA deployment from 21.0.3-IF031 or later to 24.0.0 or 22.0.2-IF006 to 24.0.0-IF001. Step 1 is to prepare your deployment environment for the upgrade, step 2 is to upgrade the operators, step 3 is to upgrade your deployment version, and step 4 is to complete some post-upgrade tasks. Do all 4 steps to be sure of a successful upgrade.
