Downloading and installing additional content

The IBM service management products deliver built-in content that is carefully designed, tested, and supported. It is recommended that you use the built-in content to ensure that you adhere to best practices. Between product releases, additional content can be made available from other sources. You can use the Content Installer application to locate, download, and install any additional content that you want to use.

About this task

The additional content is made available primarily on the Integrated Service Management Library. Follow these steps to download and install content that is available for your service management products. Do not install content directly into your production environment. Install it into a development or test environment, and perform the necessary customization and verification to ensure that it is suitable for production use. Then use your standard tools to move the tested content to your production environment.

Procedure

  1. Click System Configuration > Content Installer to open the Content Installer application.
  2. In the List tab of the Content Installer application, click the name of the product for which you want to download content. The Content tab displays a list of content packages available for that product. Look at the Installed and Installable check boxes to verify that the package has not already been installed, and that your environment meets the package's prerequisites.
  3. To download a package, click the Install Content icon on the line next to the package.
  4. A warning message is displayed, reminding you that installing this package might overwrite content that has already been installed. You should back up your data before installing new content. Click OK on the warning panel when you are ready to proceed.
  5. A new panel is displayed, providing information about the package. This panel might contain a license agreement; if it does, you must accept the agreement before you can download the package. After reviewing the license terms, check the box to accept the terms and click Download.
  6. After the content has been downloaded, the installation panel appears. Some packages contain several components, and you can decide which components to install. Clear the check boxes for the components that you do not wish to install
  7. If you want to be sure not to overwrite existing content, you can enter a two-letter prefix on the Replacement tab. This prefix will be prepended to the names of the components being installed.
  8. Click Install to install the selected components of the package.
