Configuring floating licenses for Windows servers

These steps are required to configure floating and named-user floating license keys.

Table 1 provides a list of steps that are required to configure floating and named-user floating licenses keys.

Configure floating licenses	Understand the IBM® Common Licensing model. See Getting started with IBM Common Licensing. Request and receive permanent license keys. See Requesting permanent license keys from the IBM License Key Center. If you are evaluating the product, use the temporary license keys. Install the License Key Server on the server. See Prerequisites to install the license server on Windows. Install the evaluation or permanent license keys on the license server. See Using floating keys on a Windows license server. Note: For name-user floating license, see Using named-user keys on a Windows license server. You do not need to edit the `ibmratl.opt` file. Start the License Key Server. See Starting the Windows license server. Tell client users to specify the license server in their client.
Configure redundant license servers	See Configuring redundant license servers on Windows.
Assign port to the `lmgrd` and vendor daemons	See Assigning port values for the license server.
Change the order that the IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) or IBM Rational® products use licenses	You cannot use the license server to change the license usage order for all clients. To Manage Licenses wizard for products that are built on the Eclipse platform. The Manage Licenses wizard is in the IBM Installation Manager. The license usage order is tied to the user_ID. Changing the order of license usage for clients by using Installation Manager
Modify the time-out period	Set the TIMEOUT value in the options file, see Options file commands.
Upgrading the License Key Server	You can upgrade the License Key Server to the current version. Do not use different versions of the license server on the same computer.
Using multiple license servers on the same server	Use a separate `lmgrd` instance for each vendor daemon and keep license keys in separate files.
