Setting synonyms for full-text searches
Define synonyms to avoid specifying all of the possible
alternative names for a term in a full-text search expression. For
consistent search results, set the same set of synonyms for each IBM® Content Search Services server.
Synonyms
A synonym is a word or phrase that you specify as equivalent to some number of other words or phrases. An IBM Content Search Services search server automatically searches for all synonyms for a search term. You define synonyms to avoid specifying all of the alternative names for a thing or concept in the full-text search expression.
Updating synonyms for a server
Configure synonyms for a new IBM Content Search Services server or reconfigure synonyms for all servers as needed.
Removing synonyms for a server
Remove all synonyms for an IBM Content Search Services server if you no longer want to use synonyms for full-text searches.
Synonym input file: Format reference
The command-line synonym tool reads your specified synonym input file to set the synonyms for an IBM Content Search Services server. Within the input file, define the words or phrases that are to be synonyms in groups. Each synonym in a group is a synonym for every other synonym in the same group. The order of the synonyms within a group has no significance.
