Changing Power settings
On PowerVM capable systems, you must change the simultaneous multithreading (SMT) settings.
- Installation phase
-
Setting up a client workstation
Setting up a cluster
Collecting required information
Preparing to run installs in a restricted network
Preparing to run installs from a private container registry
Preparing the cluster for IBM® Software Hub
Preparing to install an instance of IBM Software Hub
Installing an instance of IBM Software Hub
Setting up the control plane
Installing solutions and services
- Who needs to complete this task?
-
Cluster administrator A cluster administrator must complete this task.
- When do you need to complete this task?
-
One-time setup You must change the SMT settings if you plan to install IBM Software Hub on PowerVM capable systems.
Procedure
Complete the following steps to change the SMT settings.
The SMT settings depend on whether you plan to install the Db2 Warehouse service. If you plan to install Db2 Warehouse, consider whether you plan to install the service on dedicated nodes.
- Label all worker nodes by using one of the following options:
- If the worker node will not run Db2 Warehouse workloads,
use
SMT=4, as shown in the following example:oc label node <node> SMT=4 --overwrite - If the worker node will run Db2 Warehouse workloads,
use
SMT=8, as shown in the following example:oc label node <node> SMT=8 --overwrite
- If the worker node will not run Db2 Warehouse workloads,
use
- Create a YAML file, smt.yaml, with the following
content:

oc create -f smt.yamlWhen you run this command, the cluster performs a rolling restart of all of the worker nodes to set the specified SMT level.
If a worker node is not labeled, the node uses the default SMT level.
If you need to change the SMT level on a specific node, label the worker node with the correct SMT level and manually restart the node.
