Saving a Chart Template

  1. Edit the chart to have the look, settings, or options that you want to apply automatically to charts when you create them.
  2. From the menus choose:

    File > Save Chart Template

  3. Choose the settings to save with the template. It is recommended that you save only those settings you explicitly need in the template. For details about each setting, see Template Settings Details . If you are having trouble finding a setting, click Expand All to expand the whole tree.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Enter a file name and location for the new template. The template's extension is .sgt.
  6. Click Save.

In the template chart, make sure that you set the properties explicitly; do not rely on an automatic setting to give you the results you expect when you apply the template. For example, assume the default axis range for one chart is 0–100. You like this range and save the chart as a template. But when you apply the template to another chart, the range is not 0–100. This occurs because the axis range was set to automatic. When a setting is automatic, the Chart Editor picks a value that is best for that particular chart. The automatic setting might not be the same as the automatic setting in the chart you used as a template.
