Catalog service

The catalog service is a lightweight component that belongs to the IBM® Sterling Intelligent Promising configuration platform.

The purpose is to house the item catalog data that is needed for inventory and fulfillment management. The Systems Integrator can choose to integrate catalog data from Sterling Order Management System Software, external system, or maintain the catalog within the Sterling Intelligent Promising platform. Some benefits of using the catalog service include, exposure of the catalog data in the availability lookup, event publish, audits, as well as a filtering criteria for sourcing, optimization, and safety stocks. Adopting the build in catalog service increases the efficiency of the e-commerce system by reducing extra steps that are needed to associate data and eliminate the unnecessary network latencies.

The catalog service maintains data that is associated to a salable item, such as the product ID or UPC on the product details page.

Note: The synchronization between Sterling Order Management System and Sterling Intelligent Promising catalog and vice versa is not supported. Refer to the Sterling Intelligent Promising catalog REST APIs to invoke and manage catalog data.
