Upgrade prerequisites for Backup & Restore services
If you use Backup & Restore (Legacy) service in your previous version, then meet these prerequisites before the upgrade of IBM Storage Fusion to 2.7.x.
If Backup & Restore (Legacy) service is found installed during the upgrade to a IBM Storage Fusion version that is higher than 2.6.1, the user interface informs you that it is not supported and must be uninstalled manually.
If you want a continued usage of Backup & Restore (Legacy) service, then you must remain with IBM Storage Fusion version 2.6.1. Remaining on version 2.6.1 is required for restoring any backups taken by Backup & Restore (Legacy) service.
Before upgrading to IBM Storage Fusion 2.7.1, install the
Backup & Restore service 2.6 and do the following steps.
After you complete the following steps, upgrade IBM Storage Fusion
Backup & Restore to version 2.7.1.
- Migrate the backup policies to the Backup & Restore service. See Migrating from Backup & Restore (Legacy). After the policy is migrated, it does not attempt backups with the Backup & Restore (Legacy) service.
- After the longest retention period specified in any of the Backup & Restore (Legacy) backup policies, all backup data managed by Backup & Restore (Legacy) gets aged out and at this time it is safe to uninstall Backup & Restore (Legacy) from the system. For example, if your longest backup retention is 7 days, you must wait for 7 days until there are no more backups in the Backup & Restore (Legacy) inventory. For the procedure to uninstall, see Uninstalling Backup & Restore (Legacy).
Important:
- If you upgraded to Backup & Restore 2.7.x before aging out the backup data from the Backup & Restore (Legacy) service, start aging out backup data from the Backup & Restore (Legacy) service as soon as possible by migrating the backup policies to the Backup & Restore service as documented in this procedure.
- During this process, if you must restore data from the Backup & Restore (Legacy) service, then use the user interface. This interface is not supported in IBM Storage Fusion 2.7 so you must use it as is.
