You can use the Taxonomy
editor to create and modify
taxonomies that are created with the Create Taxonomy wizard. Terms
are the
leaf entries of a taxonomy, for example, products or stores. These
leaf entries
can be read from a dictionary or a database table. You can create
leaf entries
with the Taxonomy editor. You can build a level hierarchy for the
terms by
creating levels and assigning terms to these levels.
The Taxonomy editor
consists of the following parts:
- Unassigned Entries
- Taxonomy
Tree
Unassigned Entries
On
the left side of the Taxonomy
editor, the list of unassigned entries contains terms that are not
yet added
to the hierarchy. All terms that are created in the Taxonomy editor
or the
terms that are imported from a dictionary are first put into this
list for
later assignment to the hierarchy.
The terms are sorted
alphabetically. You can filter the terms by typing text strings in
the Filter entry
field.
By right-clicking the table, you can cut, edit,
delete or add a term.
The Unassigned Entries section provides
the following
items:
- Add a new term
- You can add new terms
by clicking this icon and replacing the default
name New Term with the name to be used. You can also press Ctrl-T.
When
the new term is added to the list of unassigned terms, the default
name is
marked for editing, so you can edit the default name instantly.
If
you
add new terms, filtering is switched off.
- Remove selected terms
- You can remove terms by selecting
the terms to be removed and clicking
this icon. You can also press Delete.
- Export Taxonomy
- Clicking this icon
opens the Export wizard.
- Synchronize taxonomy
with dictionary
- Clicking this icon opens the Synchronize Dictionary
with Taxonomy wizard.
- Filter
- By typing a text string in the Filter entry
field,
only the terms that match the specified text string are displayed
in the list
of unassigned terms.
If you do not want to
filter
the terms in the list, clear the Filter check
box.
You can use wildcards for filtering. For
example, to display
only the terms that start with the text string web,
type *web in the Filter entry
field.
To display only the terms that do not start with the text string web,
type -web in the Filter entry
field.
- Unassigned Terms
- If
you create a taxonomy from a dictionary, the terms are added to the
Unassigned Terms list. From this list, you can add the terms to a
taxonomy
hierarchy.
Taxonomy
Tree
On the right side of the Taxonomy
editor, the taxonomy tree is displayed. In the taxonomy tree, you
can create
hierarchy levels of the tree nodes, add terms from the list of unassigned
terms to the tree nodes, or move the nodes or the terms within the
taxonomy
tree.
You can change the description of a node or a term in
the taxonomy
tree by right-clicking a term and selecting Edit from
the popup menu, or by pressing F2.
You
can also
cut, or delete a tree node, or you can remove or add levels.
The
root
node of the taxonomy tree is a fixed object. You cannot rename, delete,
or
export the root node of a taxonomy tree.
The Taxonomy Tree section
contains
the following items:
- Edit
- Remove Level
- You
might want to remove a hierarchy level but keep its sub hierarchy.
To do this, you can move the subtree before deleting the level. You
can also
collapse a level. The selected level is removed and the sub terms
and levels
are added to the parent level of the selected hierarchy level.
- Add a new level
- Clicking this icon
adds a new sublevel to the selected taxonomy level
in the taxonomy tree. You can also press Ctrl_L.
If
a term is selected, new levels are added as subnodes to the first
selected
level or as subnodes to the parent level of the first selected term.
- Remove selected entries
- Clicking this
icon removes the selected taxonomy levels including sub-trees
and sub-hierarchies from the taxonomy tree.
Selected terms and terms
that
are children of selected nodes are moved to the list of unassigned
terms.
- Filter
- By typing a text
string in the Filter entry field,
only the folders that match the specified text string are displayed
in the
taxonomy tree.
If you do not want to
filter
the terms in the list, clear the Filter check
box.
You can use wildcards for filtering. For
example, to display
only the terms that start with the text string web,
type *web in the Filter entry
field.
To display only the terms that do not start with the text string web,
type -web in the Filter entry
field.
- Taxonomy tree
- By default, the taxonomy
tree contains a root node. This root node cannot
be renamed, deleted, or exported.
