Managing model selection settings
Administrators can control whether builders can select AI models when building agents. This setting helps organizations standardize on default models or allow flexibility based on governance requirements.
Before you begin
Verify that you have administrator privileges for your tenant
Review your organization's AI governance policies
Identify the default AI model configured for your tenant
Assess the impact on existing agents before changing this setting
About model selection
The model selection setting determines whether builders can choose AI models when creating or editing agents. When disabled, new agents use the tenant's default model. Existing agents retain their current model assignments.
Benefits of disabling model selection:
Ensures consistent model usage across agents
Maintains compliance with organizational AI governance policies
When to enable model selection:
Builders require flexibility to choose models based on specific use cases
Your organization supports multiple approved models
Builders need to optimize performance for different scenarios
Default behavior
New tenants: Model selection is disabled by default
Existing tenants: Model selection remains enabled to preserve current workflows
Agentic workflows: Model selection remains available in gen AI nodes and IDP nodes, regardless of this setting
Configuring model selection
Only administrators can change the model selection setting for the tenant.
Enabling model selection
To allow builders to select models when building agents:
Click your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
Select Settings > Models.
Turn on the Model selection toggle.
Select Enable selection to activate model selection.
Result: Builders can view and select from available AI models in the Agent Builder, see model details and status indicators, and change models for existing agents.
Disabling model selection
To restrict model selection and enforce the use of default models:
Click your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
Select Settings > Models.
Switch the Model selection toggle to Disabled.
Confirm by entering the required phrase.
Result: The model selection dropdown is disabled in the Agent Builder. Builders see the currently selected model but cannot change it. New agents use the tenant's default model.
Disabling model selection does not affect existing agent configurations. Agents continue to use their currently assigned models.
Exception for deprecated or unavailable models
When model selection is disabled and an agent uses a deprecated or unavailable model, the system automatically enables the model selection dropdown for that specific agent. This exception allows builders to update to a supported model without requiring administrator intervention.
After you select a valid model, the dropdown is disabled again.
