Viewing data items on the timeline
The Timeline window displays a timeline for each data source that is selected in the filter panel. Each timeline displays only data items that comply with the currently selected filter criteria in relation to time, date, and location. You can zoom in on a time range, and you can play through data items in sequence.
About this task
The Timeline window displays the same data items that are currently displayed on the map. For each data source, the first data item on the timeline corresponds to the data item on the map that has the earliest date and time. The last data item on the timeline corresponds to the data item on the map that has the latest date and time.
The following steps describe the different features that are available in the Timeline window.
Procedure
Selecting and viewing data items
- On a timeline, click and select a data item that is represented by a blue rectangle. When you select a data item on the timeline, the data item is highlighted on the timeline. On the map, the data item is also highlighted, and the preview card is displayed. If you select a data item on the map, the preview card is displayed, and the timeline position adjusts to display the highlighted data item.
Playing data items with Playback
- Use the Playback section to play through data items in sequence for a selected data source. Select a data source from the Playing list. Alternatively, click the icon next to a data source name at the beginning of a timeline, and the data source is selected in the Playing list. Click the Play icon to automatically display data items for the data source in chronological order, and at the specified delay interval. For the delay, enter a time interval value in seconds that is in the range 0 - 9. Click the Forward icon to display the next data item in the data source. Click the Rewind icon to display the previous data item in the data source. Click the Stop icon to reset the playback to the initial state.
Forwarding or rewinding the timeline with Scroll Timeline
- Choose a unit of time from the Unit list by which you want to forward or rewind, then click either the forward icon, or the rewind icon. With each click, the timeline position moves forward or back by the time unit that you selected.
Changing the displayed time frame through Go to Time Frame
- You can zoom in on the timeline by specifying a time range in the Go to Time Frame section. Select date and time values for Start and End. You cannot choose a date or time that is outside the date and time range of data items that are currently displayed on the map.
