This procedure provides step-by-step instructions that explain
how to determine the available memory on the destination server and allocate
more memory if necessary.
Before you begin
To determine the available memory on the destination server and allocate
more memory if necessary, you must be a super administrator.
About this task
To determine the available memory on the destination server using
the HMC, complete the following steps:
- Determine how much memory the mobile partition requires:
- In the navigation area, open Systems Management and
select Servers.
- Select the managed server of your choice in the navigation area.
- In the contents area, select the partition of your choice.
- Select Properties and select
the Hardware tab and the Memory tab.
- View the Memory section and record the minimum, maximum, and
assigned memory settings.
- Click OK
- Determine the memory available on the destination server:
- In the navigation area, select Systems Management and
select Servers.
- Select the managed server of your choice in the navigation area.
- Select Properties and
the Memory tab.
- Record the Current memory available for partition
usage (MB) .
- Click OK.
- Compare the values from steps 1 and 2.
- If the destination server has enough available memory to support the mobile
partition, then skip the rest of this procedure and continue Preparing the source and destination servers for partition mobility.
- If the destination server does not have enough available memory to support
the mobile partition, use the HMC to dynamically remove memory from the logical
partition or you can remove memory from partitions on the destination to free
up memory there.
