Climate Adaptation not sexy?

Share this post:

Who says Climate Adaptation is not sexy? William Veerbeek does. William works for the Unesco-IHE Institute for Water Education and is one of the organizers of the Delta City Competition. Protecting delta city areas against flooding requires smart development. ‘We have always búilt our way out of climate threats, but what we need is a structured approach. Improving the adaptation of cities requires more soft solutions’, explains William. For example, research has shown that flooding causes most damage to furniture. Not buildings, not roads, but furniture. A good communication plan could prevent this effect, warning the city population well in advance and supplying solutions for moving and storing their belongings.

By the way, I do not agree with William, I think Climate Adaptation can be sexy, check this link: Waterbeheer wordt slimmer, or surf around at www.ibm.com/smarterplanet for all kinds of sexy solutions for Smart Cities and Smart Water management.
