Since very early times in the history of humanity, education shaped our future. Nowadays, the fast pace imposed by the digital era impacts the way we learn. More and more we see how education is being transformed by technology to create new teaching models and inspire new ways of thinking, more adapted to our constantly changing society.

Educational institutions need to transform and prepare students with the skills they need for careers in multidisciplinary fields.

At iLex, innovation and technology is at the heart of our business. We are a Hungarian international startup, delivering innovative corporate legal solutions by providing unique, IT based services for mid-size and large businesses. Their main product is an intelligent legal service system that is able to organize and handle organically the whole legal process system of companies and is accessible at any time on the web, tablets and smartphones.

In addition, for years we have been cooperating with multiple universities in Central and Eastern Europe in Hungary, Slovakia and Romania to help the the development of a modern educational programs designed to equip students with the skills needed for the future jobs. At the end, access to advanced IT is helping students and scientists all over the world to tackle some of most sophisticated problems – from healthcare to public transportation.

The latest development on which we are extremely proud is our recent project with the one of the first Universities in Europe established in 1367 – University of Pecs.

University of Pecs launched this year an entire program for law students focusing on LegalTech. The program is fully based on the collaboration between the University and our company. As part of this education program we have introduced a chatbot called Lexi that is able to answer civil law related questions in Hungarian language. The purpose of the chatbot is to demonstrate the capabilities of cognitive technologies in the field of law and it is also an education tool since as part of the course the professors together with their students are training Lexi so that it can answer even more sophisticated questions.

IBM Cloud provided us with the speed and scale needed to immediately start building with cognitive intelligence. Lexi will not serve only in the classrooms but will be able to answer questions regarding the services which we offer to our SMB clients as well. Lexi is trained by an extended team including iLex legal practitioners like attorneys and legal councils, professors and students from the local University of Pecs and Budapest Business School. We expect that Lexi will be able to support about 1.800.000 customer inquiries in the form of chat messages or even natural language conversation over a year.

In short, IBM Cloud gave us the infrastructure and access to cognitive services that we needed to quickly build and deploy an intelligent and intuitive bot. Lexi is only the first step in our roadmap to provide more complex legal consultancy powered by cognitive technology in the future. Cognitive is changing the logic how we think of customer engagement. With our innovative chatbot supported by IBM Cloud’s cognitive services, we are a step closer to our customers and our students.
