IBM Technology Services to Help the Oil & Gas Conglomerate Integrate Business Internationally

BUDAPEST, Hungary – 20 July 2017: IBM today announced that MOL Group, a leading oil and gas conglomerate, has tapped IBM technology services to boost its operating efficiency and drive business growth in an integrated way. The IBM solution will allow MOL Group to consolidate more than 30 cross-border procurement contracts into one with IBM serving as the single interface to manage MOL’s IT infrastructure across Hungary, Croatia and Slovakia.

MOL Group is a leading integrated Central & East European oil and gas conglomerate headquartered in Budapest. It has operations in over 30 countries, employing 25000 people worldwide and operating 2000 fuel and store service stations. MOL Group is on a clear transition path to diversify its business and find new market niches.

“Aligned with MOL’s 2030 strategy, we will continue to transform and innovate by embracing a more integrated, agile and resilient business model. This should drive systematic efficiencies based on high quality low-cost assets, while growing petrochemical exposure and transforming current retail business into a truly consumer service,” said Péter Néz, Group Information Services Director at MOL Group. “As IBM is one of the leading technology services company, it will help us optimizing our IT infrastructure operation and deliver additional savings so that we can better support our core business”.

IBM provides end-to-end infrastructure maintenance, managed services, including multivendor support to MOL Group’s entities in Hungary, Croatia and Slovakia. The technology support services include hardware and software maintenance, Linux services, infrastructure managed services for backup. The deal signed in April 2017, is expected to deliver significant cost savings – up to 15 percent – throughout the two years of the contract.

“IBM brings strong business process knowledge and deep technical expertise to MOL Group’s operations,” says Peter Rehus, Country Leader, IBM Hungary. “Through this deal MOL Group will be able to procure in an integrated fashion across three countries, eliminating duplication and generating significant savings. By increasing the stability and the availability of their existing IT infrastructure, MOL will extend its life cycle and will be able to free time and resources to fine tune their digital strategy and lay out the foundation for the future use of analytics, cloud and cognitive technologies.”

IBM helps companies design and deliver transformational digital services and automate processes using its enterprise grade cloud and unique cognitive offerings through IBM Watson. More and more clients rely on IBM to be their services integrator – that is to manage the services and underlying infrastructure in an integrated and unified way through the cloud. To date more than 650 clients have deployed advanced automation capabilities from IBM Services with another 200 organizations expected to join them by the end of the year.
