IBM 5 in 5

IBM Research hosted a Science Slam at Think 2018, where they announced IBM’s 5 in 5, the five innovations positioned to change our lives within the next five years:

  1. Crypto-anchors and blockchain will unite against counterfeiters.
  2. New security methods based on lattice cryptography will emerge.
  3. AI-powered robot microscopes may save our oceans.
  4. AI bias will explode, but only the unbiased AI will survive.
  5. In 5 years, quantum computing will be mainstream.

Chairman’s address

Chairman, President, and CEO of IBM Ginni Rometty urged everyone to put smart to work, an inspiring new mantra for IBM. Michael White, CEO-designate, IBM-Maersk Joint Venture, joined Ginni on stage for a conversation about this critical partnership and its efforts to transform industries with the help of blockchain technologies. “Blockchain will do for trust and transactions what the internet did for information,” Ginni said, as they discussed what’s next for the partnership, the industry, and the technology.

 Tendencies:

We are at a tipping point in time where technology will create exponential advancement. To stay ahead of competition companies must get on the offence and leverage their incumbent situation as they have the advantage of their data if they put it to use correctly. Three guiding principles for incumbents to succeed in this journey:  i) leverage digital platforms and seek value creation by tapping into eco systems;  ii) utilize new technologies including blockchain and AI to enrich processes and decisions while “fail” fast – or learn quickly – realizing we live in a world that is constantly in beta;  iii) finally, empower diverse teams of employees to innovate, explore and take action.

In case you missed the conference, you can see all the replays here including the Chairman’s Address featuring Maersk.

We have now started planning our local Think events in Copenhagen Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm – all scheduled for fall 2018.
