Taking the plunge: Using Technology to build a better world.

I was truly invigorated after participating at NextM 2017 in Copenhagen – a forum organized by GroupM to inspire new and original thinking.

The vast number of great speakers presented exciting stories, concepts and ideas – all revolving around technology and how to get the most out of date by leveraging artificial intelligence, cognitive capabilities, virtual reality, blockchain and other cutting edge technologies to create better experiences for customers. However, besides the obvious business and commercial advantages there was a clear trend that many of these visionaries want to build a better world – by utilizing technological advancements.

My personal favorites included Nell Watson from Singularity University who wants us to take advantage of artificial intelligence and cognitive technology to create a “kindness economy”. Dr Kate Stone has created Novalia with a desire to create magic experiences for people – allowing simple touch on paper to produce music and sound. Laurence Kemball-Cook started his company Pavegen to reduce the carbon footprint from cities by generating electricity from kinetic energy produced by footsteps. Another amazing story was Molly Swenson who explained why she had started RYOT and the implications the organization has had on fundraising as the virtual reality technology enables people to put themselves in the shoes of others – without having to travel.

Many of the entrepreneurs were driven by a wish to improve the world we live in – using technology to create solutions to improve life for people and human beings.

IBM’s Watson Cloud Data Platform provides easy access to a number of cognitive services. With easy access to artificial intelligence and cognitive solutions I hope that other entrepreneurs and visionaries will take the plunge and create new solutions that will create a better world for all.
