I saw the #WeAreMainframe hashtag on mainframe social media recently and I wanted to find out more. It is used by Interskill Learning. I reached out to Interskill CEO Darren Surch to ask the story behind the hashtag.
Darren explained that Interskill uses the #WeAreMainframe hashtag. From his point of view Interskill is so woven into the thread of the mainframe industry and community. He said, “Mainframe training is all we do. We are mainframers building training for mainframers, and because of this, we know in our bones how the mainframe industry trains best!”
It may surprise you to know that Interskill delivers more mainframe training than anyone. They delivered over 960,000 hours of mainframe elearning globally last year! In fact, in the company’s 30 year history, cumulatively over 1 million mainframers have trained using Interskill training! That’s multiple generations of mainframers that have empowered their mainframe careers using Interskill online training and helped drive the efficacy of mainframe computing.
Interskill and the hashtag #WeAreMainframe
In my experience, I know that Interskill has collaborated closely with IBM’s Digital Badge Program since its beginning. They have developed and published over 100 IBM skills badges and 3 new IBM Professional Certificates were also recently made available. In fact, IBM reporting showed that over 80% of all IBM Z mainframe training related badges issued by IBM were for Interskill training curricula.
But Darren said that Interskill’s proudest use of the #WeAreMainframe hashtag is to highlight being part of and giving back to the mainframe community. Interskill donates its training to an array of organizations that empower people to build life changing mainframe careers. Interskill courses are given free to the IBM zSystems Ambassador Program, SHARE’s zNextGen program, several HBCUs, Interskill’s Academic Initiative, and TechNation Careers helping train legal refugees for mainframe careers.
IBM’s mainframe is the core, critical computer system of the modern world. It’s great to know that Interskill is a member of the mainframe community that is training the world’s mainframers!
