Making Bank with IBM: The Highest Paid IT Jobs

Share this post:

Perhaps Will Ferrell as Brendan Huff in Step Brothers said it best, “I’m ready. Walking tall. I’ve been earning and burning, snapping necks and cashing checks.”

A little aggressive, but the desire to earn more in your chosen field is universal. But how do you get there?

This month Forbes featured findings from The 2018 Global Knowledge IT Skills and Salary Report that were eye-opening. For example, IT decision makers in the US are the highest paid globally, averaging $107,193 this year. Also, IT professionals with certifications earn 22% more than their counterparts without certifications. In the Asia-Pacific region, this number balloons to 45%.

These numbers underscore the positive impact of ongoing IT training. Organizations have put a premium on employees that can maximize the return on technology investments. Showing that you are committed to developing the latest skills, obtaining pertinent certifications and applying best practices is key. Continuing education and certifications give professionals the necessary skills to leverage technologies critical for success – ultimately accelerating professional success while impacting a company’s bottom line.

From Global Knowledge’s IT Skills and Salary Survey:

IT decision-makers are nearly unanimous in their assertion that certified team members bring added value above and beyond the cost of certification. With skills gaps slowing down achievement across the industry, certified individuals complete projects faster, troubleshoot issues quicker and help provide a tangible edge over the competition.

In terms of dollar amount, decision-makers weren’t bashful with their estimates. Over 50% say that certified personnel provide an annual economic benefit that exceeds $10,000, with 27% saying it’s $20,000 or more. That’s an enormous payoff when you actually factor in the cost of training and the exam itself.

Certifications take time and dedication, but it’s clear that IT decision-makers worldwide are witnessing the value and getting behind them more than ever.

Now, more than ever, it’s imperative that you align yourself with training providers adept at teaming with IBM to help you discover training that enables you to utilize IBM technology and tools to do your job more efficiently.
