Millions of executives, operators and technicians begin their workdays by opening their CMMS or EAM systems. More of them will open IBM Maximo® than any other Enterprise Asset Management solution. I am very proud to announce that IDC has recognized IBM as a leader in its 2020 report, “MarketScape: Worldwide SaaS and Cloud-Enabled, Asset-Intensive EAM Applications. 1

The choice for the world’s most asset-intensive organizations

The IDC report indicates that pragmatic innovation played an important role in the assessments of nine prominent EAM providers. I believe that no organization is more committed to “innovation that matters” than IBM is. In 2019, IBM was awarded a record 9,262 patents2, more than any other organization. And we topped the list for the 27th consecutive year. Additionally, IBM spent $5.99 billion on R&D3. We are proud of our continuing investments in the technology, resources and embedded knowledge that drive the Maximo platform.

The IDC MarketScape report also recognized the specific industry solutions that have made IBM Maximo the choice for many of the world’s most asset-intensive organizations.

Also noted was IBM’s ability to support, strengthen, and evolve the Maximo application which has served our customers well for over 30 years. Here is an which outlines some of our key strengths:

  • Industry expertise: IBM runs active industry user groups, leveraging its large and avid client base for product development. Customers see value in the industry configurations, noting the breadth and depth of Maximo in helping them comply with industry regulations. Over the years, IBM has amassed a large network of global EAM business partners with strong domain expertise.
  • Easily configurable: Building on years of experience, IBM Maximo is a highly configurable application, allowing end users, IT administrators and implementation partners to easily adapt the system to the organization’s unique needs without custom code. Implementations of the SaaS deployment are often completed in months and exceed customer expectations.
  • Suite re-architecture: IBM Maximo’s new suite approach offers streamlined packaging, provisioning, and licensing as well as the flexibility to start at any point in the asset life cycle and expand. The re-architected IBM Maximo 8 is built on RedHat’s OpenShift container platform for multi-cloud and hybrid installation. The infrastructure-independent platform is able to run on IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, or private cloud.

IDC MarketScape vendor analysis model is designed to provide an overview of the competitive fitness of ICT suppliers in a given market. The research methodology utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria that results in a single graphical illustration of each vendor’s position within a given market. The Capabilities score measures vendor product, go-to-market and business execution in the short-term. The Strategy score measures alignment of vendor strategies with customer requirements in a 3-5-year timeframe. Vendor market share is represented by the size of the icons.

As also noted in IDC’s report, IBM has extended our CMMS/EAM Maximo platform to provide a single integrated suite of capabilities that will help you increase uptime, improve productivity, reduce maintenance costs, and build more resilient operations. IBM® Maximo® Application Suite, also known as Maximo 8, not only streamlines installation and administration, it also unifies your operations, bridging teams across the enterprise. The Maximo Application Suite connects asset management, maintenance and reliability professionals through shared data and user interactions that will help them reach new levels of operating efficiency and knowledge sharing. It also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to solve real-world industrial challenges in the asset management arena.

Most importantly, it helps you maintain resiliency and business continuity – even under rapidly changing or disruptive conditions. IBM Maximo Application Suite puts you and your team on the path of obtaining operational visibility of your assets throughout their lifecycle with faster ROI, increased productivity and operational uptime.

IDC MarketScape report sums it up, stating that organizations in asset-intensive industries consider IBM for their EAM solution when “you are likely looking for a configurable EAM application with deep functionality from a company with extensive experience in the industry.”4

Whatever industry you are in, IBM Maximo has you covered.
