IBM is pleased to announce the availability of the latest release of IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps — version 3.5 — available as of September 30, 2022.

In today’s digital-first world, CIOs are looking for ways to connect IT performance with their business needs to help make data-informed decisions about operational efficiency, performance and customer demands. Businesses lose millions of dollars each year because executives and decision-makers can’t identify blind spots in their IT performance, impacting business outcomes.

IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps v3.5 aims to address this gap, focusing on the ability to help our users understand priorities across all IT stories, in the context of a line of business or service. A new product feature in this release, Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps v3.5 makes business context data available in an AIOps Insights Dashboard. This illustrates buyer context so that executive stakeholders can correlate business key performance indicators (KPIs) to application issues and prioritize remediation responses based on the impact they will have.

More about the AIOps Insights Dashboard

Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps v3.5 Insights Dashboard gives operations a single, holistic view into the critical services tied to their organization’s KPIs. Through the dashboard, IT executives are able to present key, contextualized incident metrics to their stakeholders, prioritizing core business issues and matching how the business functionally operates. With IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps v3.5, IT leaders can bridge the gap between stakeholders responsible for key business processes and IT first responders that have boots on the ground.

Leveraging this new feature, IT executives can now understand the impact of IT problems on business services and processes and know the up-stream and down-stream impacts of an outage. Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps enables teams to identify the end-to-end technical dependencies supporting business services and processes and then assign business criticality to applications and resources. Allowing customers to define the actual cost of downtime and visualize application disruption costs over time will ultimately drive a more tangible understanding of AIOps savings and a view of where enterprises should focus their resources.

Using Watson AIOps, IT teams can reduce unplanned downtime by 15% and mean-time-to-resolution by 50%, while simultaneously helping to drive over 200% ROI by applying context to application insights and addressing business needs in real-time. Read the report here.

Product enhancements

IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps v3.5 builds upon enhancements delivered in versions 3.3 and 3.4 released earlier this year. IBM is excited to bring forward a refined AIOps user experience to our customers and to continue to bring simplicity and a strong focus around consumability to the AIOps market. Version 3.5 delivers on the promise to serve organizations with dozens, hundreds or thousands of applications with improvements to our key features:

  • View contextualized insights into an organization’s noise reduction, runbook usage, automated actions and mean-time-to-resolve (MTTR) trends.
  • Set “Quiet Time” for event analytics.
  • Suppress seasonality events in hybrid deployments.
  • View enhanced events and alerts, relevant information and associated runbooks that can be used with existing IBM Netcool® components deployed in production.
  • Use a bidirectional connector that provides IBM Netcool® interoperability and data sync with newer Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps user-views and value-add functionalities in a production environment.

IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps delivers real-time insights with business context, empowering teams to make informed decisions faster. This enables IT teams to deliver experiential excellence, bridge talent gaps and drive more business outcomes with reliability and efficiency through automated, intelligent IT operations.

Responsible AI is a competitive advantage

3 min read - In the era of generative AI, the promise of the technology grows daily as organizations unlock its new possibilities. However, the true measure of AI’s advancement goes beyond its technical capabilities. It’s about how technology is harnessed to reflect collective values and create a world where innovation benefits everyone, not just a privileged few. Prioritizing trust and safety while scaling artificial intelligence (AI) with governance is paramount to realizing the full benefits of this technology. It is becoming clear that…

Taming the Wild West of AI-generated search results

4 min read - Companies are racing to integrate generative AI into their search engines, hoping to revolutionize the way users access information. However, this uncharted territory comes with a significant challenge: ensuring the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated search results. As AI models grapple with "hallucinations"—producing content that fills in gaps with inaccurate information—the industry faces a critical question: How can we harness the potential of AI while minimizing the spread of misinformation? Google's new generative AI search tool recently surprised users by…

Are bigger language models always better?

4 min read - In the race to dominate AI, bigger is usually better. More data and more parameters create larger AI systems, that are not only more powerful but also more efficient and faster, and generally create fewer errors than smaller systems. The tech companies seizing the news headlines reinforce this trend. “The system that we have just deployed is, scale-wise, about as big as a whale,” said Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott about the supercomputer that powers Chat GPT-5. Scott was discussing the…
