Interconnect IBM Cloud VPCs and IBM Cloud classic infrastructure.

IBM is pleased to announce the general availability of IBM Cloud Transit Gateway. With IBM Cloud Transit Gateway, you can provision and define connections between resources on the IBM Cloud network, providing private interconnectivity between IBM Cloud data centers worldwide.

IBM Cloud Transit Gateway provides a central hub for connectivity, making it easier to provision and manage your networks. With IBM Cloud Transit Gateway, you can create a single transit gateway or multiple transit gateways to connect IBM Cloud virtual private clouds (VPCs). You can also connect your IBM Cloud classic infrastructure to a transit gateway to provide seamless communication with classic infrastructure resources. Any new resource you connect to a transit gateway is automatically made available to every other resource connected to it. All data remains within the private IBM Cloud backbone and is optimized for performance.

Easily connect and manage IBM Cloud VPCs

IBM Cloud Transit Gateway can support hybrid workloads, frequent data transfers, and private workloads, and it can ease the network complexity of your IBM Cloud environment. It helps enable you to build applications that span multiple IBM VPCs without the operational burden of managing a distributed network.

As your business needs change and expand, IBM Cloud Transit Gateway can help you extend applications running in the IBM Cloud to IBM’s global network of data centers to deliver applications to employees and clients around the world and to quickly expand your network capacity. Clients today are using IBM Cloud Transit Gateway to connect applications for the purposes of delivering highly available distributed workloads, edge access, and more.

Connect IBM Cloud classic infrastructure to IBM Cloud VPC

For clients who have resources in the IBM Cloud classic infrastructure (formerly named SoftLayer®), IBM Cloud Transit Gateway can be used to easily interconnect your classic infrastructure and IBM Cloud VPCs, with options for multiple connections per transit gateway.

With VPCs, you have the flexibility to dynamically deploy virtual servers (with no operating system setup), storage, and networking resources as your business requires, easily scaling resources to adapt to changing business conditions, while benefiting from the isolation and access control you can achieve by using VPCs, subnets, security groups, and network access control lists (ACLs).

When you connect a VPC and the classic infrastructure to a transit gateway, all subnets in the VPC become visible to the classic infrastructure VRF, making it possible to build applications that span classic infrastructure and IBM VPCs.

For example, you could run your web applications in one VPC, your application logic in a different VPC, and host your database on powerful bare-metal servers running in the IBM Cloud classic infrastructure, giving you the flexibility to optimize performance, meet data residency requirements, and take advantage of the lower total cost of ownership of IBM Cloud VPCs. IBM Cloud Transit Gateway can provide seamless connectivity for this and many other network topologies.
