IBM Cloud® Hyper Protect DBaaS for PostgreSQL now supports enabling PostgreSQL extensions for your databases.
What does this mean for me as a database admin?
In PostgreSQL, extensions are modules that supply extra functions, operators, or types. Using extensions helps you to simplify database management.
Previously, Hyper Protect DBaaS for PostgreSQL only supported PL/Java and ltree. Enabling other extensions required the super user role privilege, which is not granted to database admins of Hyper Protect DBaaS for PostgreSQL. Now, with the extension management framework, database admins can enable extensions on demand without the super user role.
How do I enable extensions?
You can choose to enable extensions from the list of available extensions. Currently, not all default PostgreSQL extensions are supported. For a list of available extensions and detailed instructions on enabling the extensions, see the Hyper Protect DBaaS for PostgreSQL documentation.
