IBM Cloud is excited to announce a special introductory promotion for our monthly bare metal servers running the latest 2nd-Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors (formerly code-named Cascade Lake).

Between now and September 30, 2019, you can order and try Intel’s latest Xeon Scalable generation of compute processing power on dedicated, bare metal servers in IBM Cloud data centers around the globe at 50% off list price, for up to 90 days.

These new, monthly IBM Cloud bare metal servers with the much-anticipated 2nd-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable microarchitecture can be ordered and configured today in the IBM Cloud catalog.

  • 2nd-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Gold 5218 (16 cores per CPU, 2.3 GHz)
  • 2nd-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Gold 6248 (20 cores per CPU, 2.5 GHz)

Each new 2nd-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable-based server can be ordered with 4 or 12 drives for additional storage, up to 1536 GB of RAM, and up to 2 GPU processors. This IBM Cloud bare metal and 2nd-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors promotion runs on a global scale—available in key IBM Cloud Multi-Zone Regional (MZR) data centers across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.

2nd-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors on IBM Cloud drive higher performance to help clients address their growing workload needs. By integrating higher per-core performance vs. prior generations of Intel Xeon Scalable processors— coupled with support for faster and higher capacity memory— workloads running on 2nd-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable-based servers get up to 1.33X enhanced mainstream performance and up to 17X inference boost for AI and deep-learning workloads. Compared to specific prior generation processors, here are some potential performance gains you can achieve:

How to get started

To take advantage of this limited time promotion for Intel Xeon 5218 and 6248 family bare metal servers on IBM Cloud, you’ll want to do the following:
