As SAP customers consider the hybrid cloud model for their mission-critical applications, they need flexibility and choice in deployments. IBM Power Systems is known for its flexibility, powered by the largest SAP HANA virtualized server scalability[1]. Today, we are further extending this flexibility with the announcement of SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud on IBM Power Systems.

To enable this, SAP will place IBM POWER9 servers in SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (SAP HEC) data centers to give their clients the ability to run their workloads wherever they want across the private or hybrid cloud model. The availability of IBM Power Systems in a SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud environment is a great testimony of the value that IBM Power Systems brings to SAP clients on their digital transformation journey.

Following last year’s announcement that IBM POWER9-based systems are available in the IBM Cloud, this continues our effort to allow clients to tap into IBM Power Systems technology to handle the workloads of their choice in the deployment model of their choice. With IBM Power Systems made available in public cloud environments, customers can deploy mission-critical applications in a hybrid cloud model. This gets them the best of both an on-premises and a cloud-based deployment approach.

SAP is playing an important role in enabling clients on their enterprise cloud journey. The SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC) is a fully scalable, secure service designed to accelerate cloud readiness. The offering provides capabilities that span the entire software and hardware stack, and it provides the level of control clients expect on premises in one privately managed environment. SAP HEC on Power Systems will offer the enhanced scalability and availability of mission-critical SAP applications by allowing users to scale up their HANA applications in a private, managed POWER9 instance.
