With the publication of Gartner’s 2020 Magic Quadrant (MQ) for Data Integration Tools, the IBM data integration team is thrilled to once again be recognized as a Leader. This affirms our strength in the space, as we continue to deliver a world class data integration experience.

Gartner has stated that the future is rich for the data integration space, as the market is supported by strong levels of market growth and adoption — and we at IBM agree. Organization leaders acknowledge that they need a range of data delivery capabilities and must employ data integration techniques to share data in their data management infrastructure. In 2020, traditional data integration has also shifted from being solely focused on bulk/batch dominance for delivery in the market. We believe our robust portfolio of data integration offerings, paired with our strong partnerships enables our clients to address their specific business needs to drive success.

When organizations become our clients, they not only get access to our feature-rich products, but they also earn the ability to tap into our knowledgeable sales team and expert IBMers. In the 2020 MQ report, Gartner recognized the responsiveness of our sales team and expert IBMers, who are able to be called upon to answer any questions. Our reference clients also “repeatedly emphasized the scalability and performance of the product”, something that we know, but is always good to hear as feedback.

Our data integration tools also support multiple modes of data delivery. The Gartner MQ report recognizes our diverse data integration styles and architectures. We support a wide range of connectors and have the ability to deliver both on-premises and cloud integration scenarios. Gartner also highlighted our vision with Cloud Pak for Data (based on Red Hat OpenShift). This platform of ours—with its composable, microservices-based architecture—allows multiple roles to access several data integration delivery styles, including data virtualization, streaming data integration and data replication/synchronization. Cloud Pak for Data can be deployed on all major cloud service providers.

Our Vision for the Future

According to a Forrester report, when customers use IBM DataStage — with our cloud-native architecture built on containers and microservices — they can achieve real-time analytics easier than ever, reducing infrastructure management effort by between 65 and 85%.

To address today’s need to deliver data integration as a cloud service, we are pleased to share our DataStage as a Service offering. This is a web-based version of IBM DataStage, but re-architectured as a true SaaS, cloud-native, cloud-first experience for our customers (both existing and new). The new DataStage flow canvas is being built using an open source project called Elyra, and the new flow schema is an open source JSON standard.

In 2021, you’ll be able to utilize the power of IBM DataStage in a SaaS environment.
