When the pandemic struck, businesses worldwide went into rapid response, quickly shifting strategies to put the health and safety of employees and customers at the forefront of their operations. IBM’s Global Real Estate (GRE) teams led a coordinated effort with leaders across government, HR, crisis management, and health and safety teams, to send home 95% of its workforce in over 100 countries across 70 million square feet of IBM workplaces.

None of this would’ve been possible without the use of TRIRIGA, which enabled the GRE teams to design and implement protocols to safely close, monitor, and re-open its workplaces. In true IBM fashion, we relied on our own expert product and software teams who kicked into high gear to adjust our solutions to meet the critical and ever-changing needs of our employees, partners, and our customers. Our TRIRIGA product teams demonstrated a keen ability to innovate amidst the disruption, which helped GRE develop a strategic playbook to coordinate a safe return to the workplace.

As a result of this work, the International Facility Management Association awarded GRE with the prestigious George Graves Award for Facilities Management Achievement. This award recognizes a facility management program or idea that has had a substantial positive effect on the success of their organization.

“This award acknowledges the hard work, innovation, and partnership of so many across IBM to enable IBMers to return to work safely during the pandemic. We are well positioned to lead the next generation of workplace design and operations, and I’m thankful to our teams for the dedication to our purpose for the future of IBM.”  – Jane Muir-Sands, Global VP of Real Estate, IBM

I’m tremendously proud of the work we’ve done to evolve our TRIRIGA solutions to meet the very real needs of our customers, establishing:

  • New dashboards for executive teams to monitor status and make decisions
  • Integration of solutions to create entirely new ways to ‘check in’ digitally
  • Capacity monitoring and dynamic space planning
  • Improved indoor mapping and reservation tools

This award reflects the partnership between GRE and TRIRIGA, and demonstrates the collaborative force of our teams to deliver the tools that support business resiliency for our customers, while serving the well-being of our workforce. I’m humbled by this award and the work of so many to improve the workplace experience of the future.
