The E. & J. Gallo Winery developed a precision irrigation system to grow better grapes and conserve H₂O in the process. With IBM Research, the winemakers are using a cognitive irrigation system that can identify and deliver the specific amount of water needed to plots as small as 40 vines. Gallo’s crop yield increased by 26 percent— and water consumption was cut by a quarter.
