APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When the VM Backup History and/or the VM Backup Utilization
report is invoked via a RESTAPI call the Spectrum Protect Plus
server's CPU utilization increases to a sustained 100% usage,
until the report generation fails with an error several minutes
    later.

The error returned from the REST call is:
    {'timestamp': '2022-08-01T16:04:10.603+00:00', 'status': 500,
    'error': 'Internal Server Error', 'message': ''}

This condition has been addressed with the refactoring of the
    two libraries below:
    - com.catalogic.ecx.api.hypervisor-3.10.0.jar
    - com.catalogic.ecx.serviceprovider.common.hypervisor.catalog-3
    .10.0.jar

Affected versions: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.12 and earlier

Local fix

  • Generate the reports from the Spectrum Protect Plus console
interface, rather than using the RESTAPI functionality.

Problem conclusion

  • The analytics/ngp endpoints are served by nodejs code external
to the backend and use REST APIs to gather data. This causing
scaling issues in large environments where many nested API calls
may be made to collect the data. The fix was to create a new API
on the backend which outputs the same data, the new API's
    endpoint is: GET /api/hypervisor/vmbackuphistory.

Temporary fix
