IT41978: VSNAP USER PASSWORD CONTAINS SPACE CAUSES CATALOG BACKUP FAILURE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When register the vSnap server on IBM Spectrum Protect Plus ,
  
  if the vSnap server user's password contains any space,
  
  the catalog backup will failed to enable password-less ssh to
  vSnap.
  The following message can be seen from the system bundles,
  
  catalog-backup/enablepasswordless-ssh.log.
  
  
  /usr/bin/ssh-copy-id: ERROR: ssh: Could not resolve hostname
  XXX:
  
  Name or service not known
  Failed to enable password-less ssh to host XXX, msg:
  /usr/bin/ssh-copy-id:
  
  INFO: Source of key(s) to be installed:
  "/home/virgo/.ssh/id_rsa.pub"
  
  Note the XXX is not the vsnap servers hostname, but a phrase
  from
  
  the password.

Local fix

• change the registered vsnap user password to remove the space.

Problem conclusion

• The password sent by IBM Spectrum Protect Plus to the
  enable-passwordless-ssh script used in catalog backups is now
  properly escaped, which allows spaces to be included in vSnap
  passwords.
