Error description

  • The IBM Spectrum Protect Plus GUI login hangs.
If restarting the appliance, the GUI displays the message
"Server being brought up. Wait..." without progressing to the
    login prompt.
Further symptoms for this APAR to apply :
    - If the user already is logged in, no job is displayed in the
      GUI
    - Manually restarting the ?rabbitmq-server? service from the
appliance command line does not resolve the issue
    - The /data/rabbitmq/mnesia/ directory is abnormally large up
to the point it can fill up the /data filesystem

The /data/rabbitmq/mnesia/ directory can fill up if
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus cannot process the messages queued
in RabbitMQ quicker than they are being queued.
This usually happens if experiencing another issue, such as
    CPU exhaustion.

IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Versions Affected:
    IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.x

Additional Keywords: SPP, SPPLUS, TS009500974, hang,
                         filesystem full

Local fix

  • Delete the contents of /data/rabbitmq/mnesia/ and restart the
    appliance.
Add CPU resources to the appliance to avoid the problem.

Problem conclusion

  • The weekly scheduler in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus has been fixed
to ensure that it does cause CPU exhaustion when a misfire
occurs, which in turn ensures that the SPP User Interface will
still be usable after a misfire.

Temporary fix
