Error description

  • When enabling IBM Spectrum Protect Plus alerts at Global
    Preferences/Logging to the /var/log/messages system log the
    alerts generated by the vSnap server are not being displayed.
    vSnap server alerts will show up at the alerts menu from the
    IBM Spectrum Protect Plus GUI but will not be posted to
    the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus system log.
    
    
    Example of alerts generated by vSnap server seen at the IBM
    Spectrum Protect Plus alerts menu:
      - Mar 1, 2021 11:15:17 AM -> vsnap-server-address (Vsnap):
         free disk space 8,532,015 MB (12.35%) lower than
         threshold 20%.
    
    The IBM Spectrum Protect Plus VIRGO 'log.log' shows:
      -[2021-03-01T11:15:17.123Z] WARN 1614597317123 Storage
         Controller <vsnap-server-address> - Free Space is at 12%
         which is less than recommended 20%

Problem conclusion

  • When disk space on an IBM Spectrum Protect Plus appliance begins
    to be exhausted (disk space usage is greater than the configured
    threshold), an alert is generated in the User Interface. This
    alert is now also added to the IBM Spectrum Protect log and the
    /var/log/messages system logs (when the user enables the "Enable
    logging IBM Spectrum Protect Plus alerts to the system log"
    global preference in the User Interface).
