Backing up the Deployment Engine

Back up the Deployment Engine (DE) before and after applying any updates to an existing deployment.

About this task

Use a meaningful name for the backup file to show that it contains the state of the registry at a given time. For example, DEBackupAfterJune12Install.

Procedure

To back up the DE:

  1. Change to the acsi directory: On UNIX or Linux operating systems, the directory is in /var/ibm/common/acsi for root users. For nonroot users the directory is relative to your home directory, for example, userhomedirectory/.acsi_username. On Windows operating systems, the directory is in C:\Program Files\IBM\Common\acsi for administrator users.

  2. Set the environment, as follows:
    • For UNIX operating systemFor Linux operating system./setenv.sh
    • setenv.cmd
  3. Change to the bin directory: On UNIX or Linux operating systems, the directory is in /var/ibm/common/acsi/bin for root users. For nonroot users the directory is relative to your home directory, for example, userhomedirectory\.acsi_username\bin. On Windows operating systems, the directory is in C:\Program Files\IBM\Common\acsi\bin for administrator users.
  4. Run the following command to back up the DE:
    • For UNIX operating systemFor Linux operating systemde_backupdb backupfilename
    • de_backupdb.cmd backupfilename
    Where backupfilename is the name of the file to which the DE is backed up.

What to do next

After you backed up the DE database, you can install Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus, install additional components or products on the server, upgrade Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus, or apply fix packs.
