Entry templates enable you to control how items are managed
in the repository by defining the location, class, property values,
or security of items. If you want your users to use entry templates
when adding, checking in, or modifying the properties of documents,
you must enable entry template management on one or more repositories.
About this task
You can use entry templates to streamline or regulate the
process of adding items to the repository. You can also use entry
templates when checking in documents or editing the properties of
items.
Procedure
To enable entry template management on your repositories:
- Open the administration tool in the web client.
- Click Repositories and open the
repository on which you want to enable entry template management.
- Connect to the repository as a library server administrator
(IBM® Content
Manager) or a Content Platform Engine administrator (IBM FileNet® P8).
- In the Optional Features section
of the Configuration Parameters tab, select Enable for
the entry template management feature.
- Specify which IBM Content
Manager classes you want to modify
to support entry templates.
Restriction: After
you save your changes in the IBM Content
Navigator administration
tool, the changes to the classes cannot be undone.
- Optional: Specify which classes you want
to use to store entry template IDs. This setting is required
only if you want the entry template settings to be applied when the
item is modified. If you do not enable this option for a specific
class, the entry template settings are used only when items are added
to the repository by using an entry template.
- Optional: Specify which classes you want
to use to support entry template folder associations. This
setting is required only if you want to associate an entry template
with a folder so that the entry template is used when users add items
to the folder.
Restriction: This option is only available
for hierarchical folder classes.
- Specify which users and groups can create entry templates
and use entry templates.
- Specify which entry templates
you want to associate with the root folder on your IBM Content
Manager repository.
- Save your changes to the repository configuration.
What to do next
After you enable entry template management and configure
your repository for your environment, you must:
- Associate the repository with a desktop from the Repositories tab
of the desktop.
- Enable the entry template manager feature from the Layout tab of the
desktop.
