Before you upgrade IBM® Rational® Integration Tester,
review the upgrade considerations. To complete the upgrade process,
you might also need to upgrade the schema of the Rational Integration Tester project
results database.
Upgrading to V8.6
You an upgrade from
Rational Integration Tester V8.5.x
to V8.6 without having to uninstall the software. Before you upgrade,
review the upgrade considerations in this topic. For upgrade instructions,
see
Upgrading the software.
When you upgrade
from V8.5.x to V8.6, you do not need to upgrade the results database
scheme version.
Before you upgrade the Rational Integration Tester software
Before you upgrade an existing Rational Integration Tester installation,
read the release notes for the newer version of the software to
learn about changes that might affect your ’s
use of Rational Integration Tester,
especially any new features.
Attention: You cannot
upgrade to version 8.5 of Rational Integration Tester, IBM Rational Test Control Panel, IBM Rational Integration Tester Agent or IBM Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack from
any earlier version. This restriction is due to a significant upgrade
in the version of the Eclipse framework that is used
by the products in this release. If any of these products
are installed, you must uninstall the products before you
install the new version.
Compatibility of existing Rational Integration Tester
projects
In general, Rational Integration Tester projects
are compatible when used in the same major version of Rational Integration Tester.
For example, a project that is created in Rational Integration Tester version
8.x will work in Rational Integration Tester version
8.y. GreenHat Tester 5.x projects can be opened in Rational Integration Tester 8.0.
It is also possible to migrate GreenHat Tester 4.x projects to Rational Integration Tester 8.0.

However, projects from releases earlier than GreenHat Tester 4.x
cannot be migrated toRational Integration Tester 8.0.
Attention: After a project is loaded into a newer
version of Rational Integration Tester,
it might not operate correctly if it is then loaded into a previous
version. Therefore, it is essential to use a copy of each of your
projects during upgrade testing.
Installation dependencies
and considerations
The various components of the Rational Integration Tester virtualization
environment are designed to work together. In normal operation,
all components (Rational Integration Tester, Rational Test Control Panel, Rational Integration Tester
Agent, Rational Integration Tester
Platform Pack and
exits) must all be at the same version. Otherwise, version-mismatch
errors occur. However, to make the upgrade process
easier, Rational Test Control Panel version
8.5 operates correctly with version 8.0.1.x of Rational Integration Tester,
the agents, and proxies. The 8.5 version of the agents and proxies
also operate correctly with 8.0.1.x versions of Rational Integration Tester.
Therefore, you can upgrade Rational Test Control Panel instances
to 8.5 first, and then upgrade agents and proxies, and finally upgrade
individual instances of Rational Integration Tester.
Carefully plan the upgrade process.
Note: You cannot upgrade to
version 8.5 of Rational Integration Tester, IBM Rational Test Control Panel, IBM Rational Integration Tester Agent or IBM Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack from
any earlier version. This is due to a significant upgrade in the version
of the Eclipse framework that is used by the products
in this release. If you already have any of these
products installed, you must uninstall them before installing the
new version.
Verifying and upgrading the schema
After
you upgrade IBM Rational Integration Tester,
verify that the schema version of the Rational Integration Tester project
results database in use is correct for the new version of Rational Integration Tester.
Update the schema if required.
For the required schema version,
see the release notes for the release.
To verify and update
the schema:- Verify the schema version in use:
- On the menu bar, click . Select the Server
Settings tab.
- Click Test Connection
The schema version in use must be compatible with the new version
of the software as mentioned in the release notes.
- To upgrade the schema, see Upgrading the project results database schema.
Verify that the new version of
Rational Integration Tester runs
your existing tests successfully before you roll the product out for
general use.
