New for Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager Version 4.1.3

IBM® Tivoli® Storage FlashCopy® Manager for VMware includes several new features and changes.

Protect your VMware datastores on IBM Storwize® family and IBM System Storage® SAN Volume Controller storage without manually preparing target volumes
During a backup operation, data snapshots are created from the source volume and associated to one or more target volumes on the storage system. When you start a backup operation, target volumes are dynamically allocated on Storwize family and SAN Volume Controller storage systems.

When you configure Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager, you have a choice of Storwize family and SAN Volume Controller configuration options.

If you select Storwize family and SAN Volume Controller dynamic target allocation ('SVCDTA' in the console-based wizard), Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager dynamically allocates target volumes on the storage system during the backup process.

If you select Storwize family and SAN Volume Controller static target allocation ('SVC' in the console-based wizard), you must manually create target volumes on the storage system, and configure the Common Information Model (CIM) agent.

In addition, when you use dynamic target allocation you can restore any backup image from a sequence and the remaining backup images are not deleted.

For the new SVC adapter with dynamic target allocation, mounted backups are nonpersistent, therefore changes that are written to the mounted backup are dismissed when it is unmounted.

Note: Remote mirroring is not available for the new dynamic target allocation option.
