Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to start IBM Rational Asset Analyzer (RAA) while using the Rational License Key Server (RLKS) for floating licenses results in the error "WARNING: Wasn't able to check out license for user [nnnnn]. License error=[Cannot find license file]".
Symptom
The RAA user interface shows that a trial license is in use, or that the license is disabled, when licenses have been imported into RLKS.
In RAA's RaaRestWar.0.0.log file, the following message may be displayed:
[2011/06/03 16:59:11:871] WARNING: Wasn't able to check out license for user [nnnnn]. License error=[Cannot find license file.
The license files (or license server system network addresses) attempted are listed below. Use LM_LICENSE_FILE to use a different license file, or contact your software provider for a license file.

Cause
The RAA server is unable to find the RLKS server to obtain a license.
Resolving The Problem
Procedure:
- Set the following System environment variable on the RAA server:
LM_LICENSE_FILE = port@host
where port is the port number on the RLKS machine that is used for Rational License requests (default value is 27000) and host is the full host name of the RLKS machine.
- Restart the RAA server machine.
