Receiving a ReporterPlus COM error when using Microsoft Office 2003

Question & Answer

Question

Receiving a ReporterPlus COM error when using Microsoft Office 2003.

Answer

When running Reporter Plus and trying to generate a Microsoft Word Document, during the Generating Document stage, receive Exception dialogue with COM ERROR::Invalid class string as error code. This happens when using Microsoft Word or Microsoft Powerpoint 2003. Workaround: ReporterPLUS is officially supported on Microsoft Office 2000 and 2002. When using Microsoft Word 2003, some of the COM classes do not get registered. You should be able to register them manually if you like. Go to a command prompt in the \ReporterPLUS directory. There are several files with the names doc*.dll. Each one can be registered separately using: regsvr32 You should get a windows dialog box with pass/fail for each one. If you want to save some time, paste the following code into a batch file and run from the above directory: regsvr32 dochtmlcom.dll regsvr32 docpptcom.dll regsvr32 docrtfcom.dll regsvr32 doctextcom.dll regsvr32 docwordcom.dll regsvr32 Reporter.dll
